Three Fulbright Faculty Among the 2011 Governor's Arts Awards Winners
Recipients of the 2011 Governor’s Arts Awards include three faculty members from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
Mary Angelino received the award in the poetry category. She is an instructor of composition and has been published in Hayden’s Ferry Review; Measure, A Review of Formal Poetry; Best News Poets, 2010; and Diagram.
Larry Foley, recognized in the individual artist category, is a professor of journalism and a documentary filmmaker who produced several award-winning films about the rich culture and history of Arkansas.
Richard Salonen, who took the award in the music composition category, is an instructor in the music department and a professional composer/arranger who has written over 200 pieces for orchestra, choir, brass quintet, big band, television and radio.
The $4,000 fellowships are awarded by the Arkansas Arts Council and recognize individuals for their contributions to the arts in the state of Arkansas. The recipients were nominated by the general public and selected by a group of professionals throughout the state.
The awards ceremony will take place on Oct. 18 in Little Rock.
