It's a Dirty Job, but Somebody's Got to Do It

Wear clothes you can get dirty, and close-toed shoes you can get wet, for the semester’s first Mullins Creek Cleanup, from 2 -4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.

Volunteers will meet at the main pavilion of The Gardens, on Razorback Road.

Drinks, power bars, gloves, insect repellant, trash bags and first aid kits will be provided for volunteers.

Mullins Creek runs from the Poultry Science Building front lawn, underneath the Razorback football and track stadiums and Walton Arena, and emerges near The Gardens on the southwest side of campus.. From there it flows underneath MLK Jr. Drive and continues through south Fayetteville. The University of Arkansas is a significant contributor to runoff pollution in the creek, and this is an opportunity to clean up some of the mess.

Volunteers are needed to help take on a section of the creek and remove the accumulated trash. Teams will be organized to concentrate on different sections, bagging trash for removal. Work on stream clean ups will go towards credit for the No Impact Competition this semester, and toward volunteer hours in the sustainability minor.

The cleanup is sponsored by the Office for Campus Sustainability, and is part of the One Book, One Community events surrounding No Impact Man, by Colin Beavan.
