Due to feedback received through member panel discussion, revisions have been made to the Donna Axum Fitness Center dress code policy regarding T-shirts. Only unaltered T-shirts, tank tops and sleeveless shirts that cover the entire stomach and chest are permitted, effective Thursday, Sept. 1.

Shirts that cover your chest and back assist in the prevention of bacterial, fungal and viral infections from being passed from skin to pad/mat contact. Whereas, altered shirts contribute to excessive sweat and moisture that can damage equipment and are also more likely to get caught on equipment.

“Enforcing this dress code is a way to ensure that we are providing the cleanest and safest environment for our university recreation patrons,” said Kristin Durant, assistant director for fitness facilities.

As a reminder, appropriate athletic attire must be worn in the Donna Axum Fitness Center at all times. Appropriate attire is defined by T-shirts or tanks that cover the torso to include the midriff and rib cage, pants or shorts made of light, breathable fabric and athletic shoes that cover the entire foot. Attire that is offensive, suggestive or overly revealing is not acceptable. Anyone in violation of the Donna Axum Fitness Center dress code policy will be asked to leave the facility.
