University Input Requested on Centers and Institutes Report

The university community is encouraged to review a new report recommending funding for multidisciplinary centers and institutes on campus.

Provost Sharon L. Gaber appointed a task force to recommend a formula by which centers and institutes at the University of Arkansas can participate in the revenue stream from the university's research incentive funds.

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary centers and institutes are important contributors to the University of Arkansas research and education mission. Centers cut across the boundaries of departments and colleges and play an important role in enabling multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs and are a necessary part of the university’s infrastructure.

The task force, chaired by Dean Ashok Saxena of the College of Engineering, submitted a report that made funding recommendations for multidisciplinary centers and institutes. The report also includes broader recommendations that may be applicable to all centers and institutes.

The report may be found on the website of the vice provost for research and economic development.

Comments may be sent to Vice Provost Jim Rankin at rankinj@uark.edu. The deadline for responses is Friday, Sept. 2.
