Chemical Engineering Professor Delivers Lecture Series on Biodiesel in Mexico

Jerry King, holder of the the Ansel and Virginia Condray Endowed Professorship in the Ralph E. Martin department of chemical engineering, was one of three invited lecturers at the 3rd Seminar of Chemical Engineering on Renewable Energies: Refrigeration, Solar, and Biodiesel at the Autonomous University of Yucatan in Merida, Mexico, June 29 to July 1.

King delivered four lectures on biodiesel technology: (1) Principles of Biodiesel Synthesis, Chemistry, and Characterization (Principios de Síntesis de Biodiesel, Química y caracterización), (2) Engineering Options for Biodiesel Production (Opciones de Ingeniería para la producción de Biodiesel, (3) Technology of Biodiesel by Solar Energy – Algae Cultivation (Tecnología de Biodiesel por Energía Solar-Cultivos de Algas) and (4) Uses of Biodiesel and Co-Products – Fuel, Chemical Intermediate, Solvent, and Food Applications (Usos de biodiesel y co-productos: combustible, químicos intermedios, solventes y aplicaciones alimentarias).

During the seminar series, King interacted with researchers from other universities in the State of Yucatan as well as both the graduate and undergraduate students at the Autonomous University of Yucatan – receiving a special recognition award from the director of the institute.
