Fayetteville Offers Solid Waste Collection for Flood Damaged Belongings

Fayetteville’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division will provide pick-up, drop-off and clean up services for people who live in the city and suffered flood damage in their homes. The following services are in addition to normal city operations and are only for people with structures that had internal flooding damage.

Residential Curb-Side Pickup:

For customers with documented flooding, the City will:

• Waive the 5 item limit for on-site bulk pickup.
• Allow a maximum of five on-site collections per flooded structure.
• Take external photographs to document the flooding at the residence.

To receive these services, customers must:

• Schedule the pickup with the City of Fayetteville Solid Waste Division, 7:30 – 4:30, 575-8398.

To provide these services, the City must establish photographic documentation that meets Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements for emergency reimbursement, including:

• Photograph and weigh all items picked up.
• Photograph the exterior of the residence, from the front, showing the address.
• Include the customer name, address, tonnage, date and time of pickup, for each pickup.

Residential Drop-Off Service:

For customers with documented flooding, the City will allow free drop-off of flood damaged materials, but only at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility at 1560 S. Happy Hollow Road.

To use this service, customers must:

• Deliver non-standard items such as bags of trash, damaged small household items, etc. to Solid Waste and Recycling Facility
• Bring a copy of a recent  City water bill for the address which flooded, verifying the address of the flooding.

To provide these services, the City must establish documentation that meets FEMA requirements for emergency reimbursement, including:

Photograph and weigh all items delivered.

Photograph the exterior of the residence, from the front, showing the address where the flooding occurred.

Include the customer name, address, tonnage, date and time of delivery, for each delivery.

Bulky Waste Clean Ups:

Any person living in the city can bring material to the bulky waste clean ups.

The Ward 2 Bulky Waste Clean Up is already scheduled for May 14th in the front parking lot of Woodland Jr. High School, 7 E. Poplar and at the Church of Christ, 310 W. Center St.

The city will also hold an additional Bulky Waste Clean up on Saturday, May 7th, 2011, from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility. Normal Bulky Waste Clean up policies apply.

The following apply for all of the services described above:

Electronic waste (e-waste), hazardous materials, and tires cannot be accepted in any of these services. These items will only be accepted at the Washington County’s Household Hazardous Waste facility at 2615 Brink Dr. in south Fayetteville.
