Arkansas Traveler to Publish Special Commencement Edition Monday

The Arkansas Traveler will continue its 105-year-old dedication to the University of Arkansas campus by publishing a special Commencement issue, which will be distributed Monday, May 9, two days before the regular distribution day.

"It's important because we will be publishing all the names of the graduates and the name of the speakers," said Saba Naseem, incoming Traveler editor, about this edition.

There will also be an emphasis on the Dalai Lama's once-in-a-lifetime visit to the university campus, an overview of what graduates accomplished during their time at the University of Arkansas, a look at how summer will affect businesses in the area, and a preview of the incoming Associated Student Government staff, Naseem said.

Naseem will oversee this production, as well as the May 31 Orientation edition, while outgoing editor Bailey McBride will be on hand to assist the new staff.

"Hopefully, we're putting out a product that's something students will want to keep beyond this week as a memento of their graduation," said McBride, who will become a graduate herself.

For Cannon McNair, advertising sales manager for the Traveler, this edition will have special relevance, and he thinks it will capture the attention of the many people at Commencement.

"It's a chance for organizations on campus to reach out to all the parents of graduates before they leave and to spread its influence to the next generation of alumni," McNair said.
