Student Leader of the Week: David Martin
David Martin is the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement's Student Leader of the Week for April 24-30.
Martin is from Severna Park, Md., and is a nontraditional student majoring in journalism and earth sciences.
Martin is the secretary of Amateur Radio Club of the University of Arkansas; volunteer DJ, volunteer jazz director and station manager for KXUA; member of the University Media Board; and member of the Arkansas Archeological Society.
Martin sees confidence and transparency as key characteristics of a leader. “Do not listen to anything I say. If you are a leader, make your own decisions. Own yourself.” David explained.
Martin’s most memorable Razorback moment is every day on campus: He feels that every single day he finds a potential in himself to achieve.
His favorite quote is from Douglas Adams: “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be."
The Student Leader of the Week award recognizes a University of Arkansas undergraduate student for excellence in leadership through campus involvement leadership activities or through volunteer and community service programs.
The criteria for nominated students are:
- Good academic and disciplinary standing with the University of Arkansas
- Exemplifies leadership through personal development, organizational leadership, citizenship and community building.
The Center for Leadership and Community Engagement invites the campus community to nominate students who fit the qualifications. All nomination forms should be submitted to Adrain Smith, Assistant Director of Leadership in the Center for leadership and Community Engagement, Arkansas Union room A665, or via e-mail at atsmith@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month. All nominations will be kept on file and considered for future weeks.
