Mechanical Engineering Students Host Conference

The University of Arkansas student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers hosted the district conference for this organization on April 1-3. Around 200 students and faculty advisers from nearby states attended.

The conference, which was chaired by mechanical engineering and Honors College student Zeke Lancaster, featured oral and design competitions and recreational events. The president-elect of ASME spoke, and there was an awards banquet honoring the winners of the competitions. The University of Arkansas won the design review competition and placed third in the design competition.

Sponsors for the ASME student conference included the University of Arkansas department of mechanical engineering and the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineers. The conference also received support from Kaplan Test Prep, Eastman, Lockheed Martin and ASME International Petroleum Institute. Organizers included Rex Bair, George Burdell, Allison Byrum, Bob Davis, Drew Fleming, Jonathan Gibson, Zack Hinson, Joeseph Pohlman, Johnathan Tran and Sarah Withem and the staff of the mechanical engineering department.
