Global Campus to Offer Online LEED Courses

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Global Campus (School of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach) will launch the first of five online LEED accreditation continuing education courses in April.

LEED, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an internationally recognized green building certification system. It provides third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance in energy savings, water efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions reductions, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources.

The Global Campus will offer its first online, non-credit LEED course, “Top Energy Conservation Strategies for Designing High Performance Buildings,” in April. The course fee is $95, and participants can register online or by phone at 479-575-3458 or 800-952-1165.

Participants will learn top technology strategies for energy-efficient designs of residential and commercial buildings. The course can provide continuing education for American Institute of Architects members and LEED professionals seeking to maintain their LEED professional credentials. Participants will earn 1.5 credits hours.

Karen Stewart, founder and president of EcoPotential Corp., will teach the course. She is a LEED-accredited professional who holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Memphis State University. Stewart also achieved Green Advantage Certification and is a certified trainer for the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

Future courses in the series will include:

  • Top Energy Conservation Strategies for Construction and Operation of High Performance Buildings
  • Top Water Conservation Strategies for Designing High Performance Buildings
  • Top Water Conservation Strategies for Construction and Operation of High Performance Buildings
  • Synergistic Opportunities and LEED Application Process
