Research by Visiting Professor Honored by Chinese Education Department

Wu Hu, a visiting professor from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China, has been awarded a prestigious honor by the China Education Department. His report, "Study on the rehabilitation and social security for the disabled people resulting from the devastating earthquake in Sichuan Province in 2008" has been selected as a "China Education Department Excellent Consultation Report."

A nationwide scholarly competition, judged by the Chinese Social Science Committee, drew 300 applicants from Chinese universities and the social science disciplines. Hu was one of only 40 scholars chosen and is the first from his university to have achieved this honor, which includes a financial award.

“Dr. Hu’s ongoing research on the portability of social benefits from one province to another promises to be groundbreaking work,” said Margaret Reid, chair of the political science department.

Hu has been at the University of Arkansas since June 2010 in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, working with Reid on issues in public administration.
