Electrical Engineering Professor Named IEEE Fellow

Simon Ang

Simon Ang, professor of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for his contribution to microelectronic packaging and power electronics education. Ang is the director of the university’s High Density Electronic Center and the associate director of the National Center for Reliable Electric Power Transmission.

Ang received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arkansas. He has a Master’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD from Southern Methodist University, both in electrical engineering. He holds four patents and is the principal author of the book Power Switching Converters, currently in its third edition. In addition to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Ang is a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the City and Guilds of London Institute, and the Electrochemical Society. He is the honorary president of Xi’an Aeronautical Polytechnic College in Xi’an, China.

In his teaching and research, Ang covers a broad range of topics, including power electronics, integrated circuit design and test, microelectronic and power electronic packaging, sensors, and biomedical technology. He is currently involved in projects to develop high-voltage power electronic modules for smart electricity grid.
