Silas Hunt Legacy Alive on the Web

Silas Hunt was the first black student in modern times to attend a major Southern public university when he was admitted to the University of Arkansas School of Law in February of 1948. Though his experiences were not like those of students today, Hunt was a trailblazer for many and an inspiration to those who followed in his footsteps.

Silas Hunt’s legacy has become a part of many students, faculty and staff  — through a named building on Maple Street, a thriving scholarship program, an historical documentary commissioned in 2006 and a black-tie event that honors African Americans who have paved the way for change.

Today, the legacy of Silas Hunt also lives online. Please visit http://silashunt.uark.edu/ to learn more about diversity efforts across campus, the Silas Hunt Legacy Awards and the deserving honorees of the award. Videos from the 2010 event capture the special celebration of Silas Hunt and the recognition of individuals who have made and continue to make a difference locally, statewide, nationally and globally.
