Unhealthy Cities Presentation Links Poverty, Health and Place

University of Arkansas professor Kevin Fitzpatrick will read from and discuss his new book, Unhealthy Cities, a collaboration with his long-time colleague Mark LaGory. The event, which includes a book signing, takes place at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6 at Nightbird Books, 205 W. Dickson St.

Unhealthy Cities examines "the health costs of being poor in American cities.” Fitzpatrick and LaGory pull together research and analysis from several disciplines to look at the ways low income areas of our cities “seem to be designed to make people sick.”

Kevin Fitzpatrick is professor and Jones Chair in Community in the sociology and criminal justice department of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. He also serves as the director of the Community and Family Institute at the University of Arkansas.
