Law Professor Discusses Forced Sterilization, Human Rights Issues
School of Law professor Uche U. Ewelukwa will make a presentation on the topic "Forced Sterilization, Marginalized Groups and International Human Rights Law" at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Room 327 of the Leflar Law Center.
Her presentation is a part of the communitywide discussion of the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which is being read in the One Book, One Community program. Among the issues raised in the book are the institutionalized practices of using African-Americans and other minorities as unknowing test subjects in medical experiments during the first half of the 20th century. As Ewelukwa's lecture makes clear the practices may have changed in the United States, but the human rights issues are still an international concern.
