Reputation of University, Colleges and Programs is Growing

U.S. News and World Report, which ranked the University of Arkansas in 66th place among national public universities in its 2011 edition of America's Best Colleges, also recognized the achievements of several colleges and programs within the university.

"This is well-deserved recognition," said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. "It comes in response to the hard work that is being done by our students, our faculty and our administrators, and it is something of which the entire university community can be proud."

The undergraduate program in the College of Engineering was ranked No. 61 among public doctoral-granting institutions. Within the college, the industrial engineering department was ranked 25th nationally.

For the second consecutive year, the School of Law was ranked among the top 50 public law schools.

The Sam M. Walton College of Business was ranked 24th among the public undergraduate business colleges for the fourth consecutive year. The full-time and managerial M.B.A. programs were ranked in 25th place among public institutions. In addition, the college's supply chain management/logistics specialty was ranked in 13th place among both public and private business schools.

The College of Education and Health Professions placed 141 among graduate schools, its highest ranking ever. The college's rehabilitation education and research program is ranked 15th nationally.

In the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the physics department was ranked for the first time, placing 113th among more than 175 ranked programs.

Looking beyond the U.S. News rankings, the Creative Writing Program in the Fulbright College was recently rated 38th in the top 50 national creative writing programs by Poets & Writers magazine.

Design Intelligence magazine ranked the architecture program in the Fay Jones School of Architecture as 20th in its 10th Annual Survey of America's Best Architecture and Design Schools. The publication also named the School of Architecture one of five "hidden gems of architecture education" for 2010.

The Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences was also recently recognized by industry publications which ranked its food science, animal science, and poultry science programs each in the top 10 for their respective categories.

"It is the university's goal to steadily improve every aspect of the education that we provide for our students," said Sharon Gaber, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. "We can see how much we are achieving; it is satisfying to know that the University of Arkansas is receiving national recognition as well."
