Global Campus and Butterfield Trail Village Partner for Dementia Conference

The University of Arkansas Global Campus and Butterfield Trail Village will host a conference on "Dementia in the 21st Century: Awareness, Prevention, De-stigmatization and Intervention." The conference will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the new Lodge, 1923 E. Joyce Blvd., Fayetteville. The members of the public as well as professionals are invited to register and attend.

The conference was organized by the founding members of the Northwest Arkansas Dementia Team: Susan Ang, B.S.N., R.N.; Vicki Hodges, L.S.W., L.N.H.A.; and Judith Tavano, M.A., S.P.H.R. Topics will include treatment updates, managing stress, understanding the disease, and de-stigmatizing Alzheimer's patients.

"Our goal is to share knowledge on dementia with the public and to network with other professionals, as well as people whose lives have been affected by dementia," Ang said. "The members of our NWA Dementia Team hope this conference will make a significant impact on the community and in our own clinical settings."

The line-up of speakers includes Dr. Pham H. Liem, associate chief of staff for geriatrics and extended care service at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. Liem is also vice-chair of the Donald W. Reynolds department of geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Also scheduled to speak are Kristen Bosc, a clinical neuropsychologist at the Northwest Health/Schmeiding Center for Senior Health and Education; Jennifer Neill, a wellness coach and fitness coach at Butterfield Trail Village; and Dr. Gary Linker, a clinical psychiatrist at Vista Health.

The $50 registration fee for the conference includes all sessions, lunch, beverages, snacks and continuing education units. To register, visit the Global Campus event calendar. Seating is limited. For more information, contact Susan Ang, sang@btvillage.org.
