University of Arkansas to Host Breast Cancer Research Workshop
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas will host the 2010 Advances in Breast Cancer Research workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation on Oct. 26-29. The workshop will bring together researchers in nanotechnology, biomagnetics, microwave imaging, acoustics, laser and biochemistry fields with researchers from radiology, oncology and breast surgery.
Eight prominent breast cancer researchers from medicine and engineering will present their research developments in various areas, including magnetic resonance imaging, diffuse optical tomography and nuclear medicine.
The workshop is intended to inspire and motivate researchers from medical sciences and engineering to establish collaboration among the multidisciplinary areas presented in the workshop. Discussions in the format of questions and answers after each presentation can stimulate new ideas and directions to advance the current techniques of breast cancer detection and treatment.
Participation is limited to 50 researchers, and senior and junior faculty and medical research scientists currently working on breast cancer research are encouraged to apply. Outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral students interested in pursuing breast cancer research in their careers are also encouraged to apply. Transportation, hotel, registration and meals will be covered for the selected applicants. Applications will be accepted through June 30.
The workshop will be co-sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation and support from the office of the vice provost for research, the College of Engineering and the Honors College.
