Professor Accepts Leadership in the American Chemical Society

Distinguished Professor Robert Gawley, department of chemistry and biochemistry, has been appointed to the position of program chair-elect for the organic division of the American Chemical Society.

As chair-elect, he will be responsible for organizing the organic division poster session at the next four national meetings.

In 2013, he will advance to chair, where he will be responsible for organizing the entire organic division program. For all four years, he will serve on the executive committee of the organic division of the American Chemical Society.

Gawley is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in the chemistry of chiral organolithium compounds, and he regularly speaks at national and international conferences on his work in this area. He is also known for his work with marine toxins, including brevetoxin and saxitoxin.
