History Department Awards Nearly $38,000 in Scholarships and Prizes
The University of Arkansas department of history of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host a ceremony honoring some of their exceptional students from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at University House.
Thirty-three historians, both undergraduate and graduate, will receive departmental prizes and scholarships totaling almost $38,000, and 100 talented history majors will win certificates of academic excellence.
In addition, there will be a ceremony to induct thirty new members into the Alpha Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honors organization. Phi Alpha Theta, which was founded at the University of Arkansas on March 17, 1921, is the largest college honor society devoted to a single discipline with 820 chapters in the U.S. and three other countries.
History is proud of all of its nearly 400 majors and 80 graduate students, but is especially delighted to have this occasion to honor their most accomplished students before the department and the university community.
