University of Arkansas Offers Summer Music Camp
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Registration is now open for junior and senior high school band and orchestra students interested in attending the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp set for July.
Nationally recognized artists, teachers and conductors aim to improve students’ performance skills and to broaden the knowledge of individual musicians through a comprehensive curriculum designed for the participants’ varying levels of ability.
The university offers three camp options: the junior high band camp will run July 11-16; the senior high band camp will be July 18-23; and, the junior/senior high orchestra camp is set for July 18-23.
To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in junior high or high school band or orchestra during the 2009-10 school year and obtain the music director’s signature on the application. Junior high campers are those completing grades 6-8 in spring 2010, and senior high campers are those completing grades 9-12 in spring 2010. All students who play stringed instruments will attend camp July 18-23.
The camp offers specialists on every instrument; 6 hours of instruction per day; performance in at least one large ensemble during camp; planned, supervised recreational activities; and well-equipped, comfortable facilities.
Participants can stay in a residence hall on the University of Arkansas campus or commute for daily activities. The cost is $370 per person for campers who stay in the residence hall. The cost for commuting students is $275 per person. Students can receive a discounted early-bird rate, a savings of $35 per camp, if their applications are postmarked by May 21. A $40 late fee will be charged for applications postmarked after June 11.
Students may also receive private lessons during camp for an additional cost of $10 per lesson. Lessons are limited to one per student for junior high band camp and two per student for both senior high camp and junior/senior high orchestra camp. Camp T-shirts will be available for purchase for $15 each only at the time of application.
