Gov. Mike Beebe proclaimed March 8 as Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Day in Arkansas. LaVonne Kirkpatrick, assistant professor of elementary education at the University of Arkansas, is state president of the organization.

The society of women educators promotes the professional and personal growth of its members along with excellence in education. The Arkansas state organization was founded March 8, 1935, and is celebrating its 75th year of existence.

Delta Kappa Gamma awards grants and scholarships to members, college students and high school students to help them increase their knowledge or to help them prepare to be teachers.
