‘One Book, One Community’ Committee Seeks Book Nominations for Fall 2010
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The “One Book, One Community” committee is in the process of selecting a book for the 2010 fall semester and welcomes nominations from interested parties on campus and throughout northwest Arkansas.
The inaugural “One Book, One Community” project last semester was very well received. More than 2,500 people, including University of Arkansas students, faculty and staff, as well as Fayetteville Public Library book groups and other community members read and discussed Luis Alberto Urrea’s The Devil’s Highway. Urrea visited the campus and library to give public talks on his life and work.
The “One Book, One Community” committee will select the 2010 book guided by the following criteria:
- It must be nonfiction.
- It must generate questions and conversation across a variety of academic disciplines about a currently relevant issue.
- The author must be living.
- It should be no longer than 350 pages.
- It must be available in a relatively inexpensive paperback edition.
To nominate a book, write a statement (no more than 250 words) explaining why the book should be chosen and how it meets the criteria and send it as an e-mail message or Word attachment to onebook.uark@gmail.com by 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. The planning committee will seriously consider all nominated books that meet the criteria and announce the selection for the 2010 book this spring.
