WALTON COLLEGE NAMES NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Peggy Boyles, manger of gift and record services for the Office of Development, has been named assistant director of development for the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, effective Oct. 7, 2002.

The assistant director of development for the Walton College helps to plan and implement the college’s fund-raising priorities and institutional advancement activities. This position reports to the director of development of the College and is part of an overall university advancement program. The assistant director of development’s primary responsibility is to secure private sector funding and to foster relationships for the College.

Boyles will also work closely with the College’s director of communication and will also coordinate some special events. The assistant director will play an important role in assisting with the planning for and executing the College’s component of the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century.

Walton College Dean Doyle Z. Williams said, "I am extremely pleased that Peggy has joined the Walton College. She has the development background and experience that will help us reach our fund-raising goals to provide excellence in education in the business disciplines. Peggy will play an important role in our corporate sponsors and Dean’s Circle programs as well as work with the Annual Fund."

Clay Edwards, assistant vice chancellor for university development, said, "Peggy has been a valuable force in managing our gift and record processing efforts, an important part of the development operation. Her experience with our database and gift recording will be an asset to the Walton College as they continue to strengthen their fund-raising programs. While we are sad to see Peggy leave the central development staff, we are always happy when an employee acquires the skills and confidence to move onto a new opportunity. She will still be a part of the development family with her new responsibilities."

Boyles is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in communications. She has more than 14 years of administrative experience and participated in the UA Supervisor Development Program. She began her development career as a National Phone Campaign caller and rose through the ranks to the position of manager of gift and record services. She has experience coordinating events, managing gift accounts, donor stewardship and pledge reminders.

Boyles said, "This is an exciting time to be a part of the University of Arkansas and I’m thrilled to accept this position in Walton College. I look forward to continuing the good relationships the College has established with alumni and friends and working to build new ones as we move ever closer to realizing the College’s Campaign for the Twenty-First Century goal."

Walton College’s Campaign goal is to raise $100 million in gifts and pledges by June 30, 2005. As of Sept. 30, 2002, $79.9 million has been raised.
