Video: The Role of Teaching and Research in Student Success

Over the past several months, the University of Arkansas has been renewing its commitment to putting students first in all aspects of university operations – including within mission-central functions of teaching and research at the university.

In the latest video installment of Arkansas 180 (at http://chancellor.uark.edu/14230.php online), Chancellor G. David Gearhart discusses the role of teaching and research, and how they need to work in concert with student success to help Arkansas adapt to a knowledge-based economy.”

“Some of the impetus behind the students first initiative is simply trying to improve the students’ experience – to see if we can find ways to keep them on the course to success, with all the administrative, financial, and academic support that we can provide,” said Gearhart. “A crucial point of contact is in the classroom, where the university’s true work is done, especially on the undergraduate level. That’s why I think integrated scholars are so important—faculty who pride themselves on both their teaching as well as their research or scholarship.”
