University To Hold Public Forum On Campus Transportation Plan
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle circulation on the University of Arkansas campus will be the topic of an upcoming public forum. All students, staff and faculty members, and other interested citizens are encouraged to attend the forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Connections Lounge in the Arkansas Union.
The transportation plan will advance and refine the transportation elements of the campus master plan prepared for the University by Sasaki Associates in 1998. The plan objective is to provide a roadway system within and adjacent to the campus that provides an acceptable level of service for both vehicles and pedestrians, realizing that within the core of the campus the concentration will be upon the movement of pedestrians. That transportation system will need to be compatible with Razorback Transit System and could accommodate a future bike path system.
Transportation consultants Andy McClurg, AICP, from Sasaki Associates Inc. of San Francisco and Boston, and Richard Klatt, PE, and Kirk Taylor, AIA, both with Walker Parking Consultants of Austin, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo., will be at the forum to present information and answer questions.
Walker’s services will include the following transportation planning objectives:
- determine the vehicular and pedestrian circulation goals and objectives
- determine existing traffic problems and recommend appropriate improvements
- determine the traffic impact of the future building program and recommend phased improvements
- determine the cost of the transportation improvements
The University of Arkansas’ transportation plan will be coordinated with the campus master plan enhancing the overall transportation experience and operation on campus.
This will be the first of three public forums to be held with Sasaki and Walker on the Fayetteville campus. Dates for the second and third forums will be announced at a later date.
