University of Arkansas Welcomes Students To First Ever Diversity Impact 2004

Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Arkansas welcomes prospective students to its campus for the first ever Diversity Impact 2004 Thursday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Nov. 19. Early check-in and a dinner welcoming participants to the UA campus will take place Thursday evening, beginning at 6 p.m.

Registration for Diversity Impact 2004 will begin at 8:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19 in the Alltel Ballroom, located on the fifth floor of the Arkansas Union. Parking is available in Lot 56, located at the corner of Razorback Road and Sixth Street. Razorback Transit will provide transportation to the Arkansas Union.

Opening sessions begin at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19 in the Alltel Ballroom. Scheduled speakers include Chancellor John A. White, Angela Galvis Schnuerle, field representative for U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Johnetta Cross Brazzell, Associated Student Government President Randy Brown and Director of Admissions Dawn Medley.

"Diversity Impact 2004 gives prospective students from diverse backgrounds in Arkansas and surrounding states a prime opportunity to tour the UA campus, meet with faculty and students, and experience what the university has to offer," said Medley. "These students will have the chance to speak with faculty and staff about all of the great things available at the U of A, including admission processes, financial aid, scholarships and our programs of study."

Diversity Impact 2004 will attract students from underrepresented communities throughout Arkansas and neighboring states. Students and family members participating in the event are encouraged to take advantage free transportation provided by the university. Scheduled stops will take place in Dallas, Tulsa, Memphis and numerous cities throughout Arkansas.

In addition to providing transportation to the UA campus for the two-day event, the university will also provide dormitory lodging to event participants taking advantage of the transportation offered.

Students and families using personal transportation are welcome to attend Friday's events but will not be provided lodging on Thursday evening.

Below is a schedule of events for Diversity Impact 2004:

Thursday, Nov. 18:

  • 6 p.m. Check-in

  • 6:45 p.m. Dinner followed by activities provided by Student Services

Friday, Nov, 19:

  • 9 a.m. Opening Session with Guest Speakers

  • 10 a.m. Information & Student Panels

  • 11 a.m. Student Ambassadors Provide Tours of the campus

  • Noon Lunch

  • 1 p.m. Tour the College of choice

  • 2:45 p.m. A Multicultural Information Fair

  • 3:30 p.m. Campus Information Fair
