PRESIDENT/COO OF UBS PAINEWEBBER HONORED BY BETA GAMMA SIGMA -

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma honored Mark Sutton as its 2003 honorary initiate. Sutton is president and chief operating officer of UBS PaineWebber.

Beta Gamma Sigma officers, Jenni Dinger and Christina Scherrey, made the presentation at the chapter’s annual induction ceremony, held at the Clarion Inn on April 1, 2003.

John Norwood, associate professor of business law, director of the Walton College’s Honors Program, and the chapter’s faculty advisory, announced the Alpha of Arkansas Chapter had received the 2003 Beta Gamma Sigma "Outstanding Chapter Gold Award." The Walton College chapter has been selected as the top chapter among the 374 collegiate chapters in all 50 U.S. states plus Canada and Hong Kong for its demonstrated excellence in chapter performance. In addition, this award includes a $1,500 scholarship to one of the Alpha of Arkansas members. Established in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the oldest and most prestigious national academic honor society for business students. The Alpha of Arkansas Chapter was founded on the UA campus in 1932.

Sutton graduated from the Walton College in 1978 with a BSBA degree in finance. He came to the University of Arkansas on a baseball scholarship. His daughter, Ashley, is currently a junior in marketing in the Walton College. He serves on the College’s Dean’s Executive Advisory Board.

Sutton is responsible for the firm’s retail business, including product development, investment services, marketing, recruiting, training, technology, overall management of the retail branch system, the Municipal Securities Group and the firm’s Puerto Rico/Latin America business units. He is also responsible for the firm’s Correspondent Services Corporation (CSC)-a wholly owned subsidiary that provides clearance and settlement services to correspondent clients. UBS PaineWebber provides wealth management services to affluent U.S. investors through more than 8,800 Financial Advisors in more than 365 offices across the United States. PaineWebber merged with the Swiss firm, UBS AG, in November 2000.

Walton College Dean Doyle Z. Williams introduced Sutton to the crowd of over 200 students, parents, faculty and UA administration. He said, "The Walton College and Beta Gamma Sigma are very proud to recognize Mark Sutton as one of our exceptional graduates. He is an individual who exemplifies the qualities of leadership and vision that we try to instill in our students."
