Moot Court Competition
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Hadley Carson Hindmarsh of Rogers, Ark., and Eugene Krupitsky of Little Rock, Ark., both third-year law students at the University of Arkansas, advanced to the quarterfinals in the Region IX rounds of the 57th annual National Moot Court Competition sponsored by the bar of New York City. The regional rounds were held Nov. 10 and 11 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kans.
Hindmarsh and Krupitsky were selected to represent the UA School of Law in the regional rounds of this prestigious national competition, after both advocates advanced to the final round of the 2006 Ben J. Altheimer Spring Moot Court Competition at the UA School of Law.
The UA team's regional competition was marked by unbridled praise for both advocates in their preliminary and quarterfinal rounds. The team emerged into the quarter finals after meeting teams from the University of Nebraska and St. Louis University. Their quarterfinal match-up was against a team from Creighton University.
The 2006 regional competition produced teams from Creighton and Washburn to represent the region in the national finals to be held in New York City in January of 2007. Region IX draws top competitors from the Midwest region, including several law schools from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Arkansas.
The students were assisted in their oral argument preparation by their coach, professor Kathryn Sampson; professors Donald Judges, Steve Sheppard, Angela Doss and Tim Tarvin; UA Board of Advocates members Jamie Dempsey, Josh Hofer, Caleb Patterson and Nathan Smith; and Fort Smith, Ark., attorneys Kevin Hickey and Brian Meadors. On Nov. 8, a final public dress rehearsal was held which was judged by professors Carlton Bailey, Michael Mullane and Dean Cyndi Nance.
The brief and oral arguments explored issues addressing the Fourth Amendment protections against searches and seizures and the Fifth and Sixth Amendment protections arising under the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Miranda versus Arizona.
