Man Arrested in Connection with Death of Woman; UA Providing Grief Counseling

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville police have arrested a Nashville, Ark., man in connection with the death of a woman whom police believe to be a University of Arkansas student. The woman’s body was discovered Thursday night at an apartment complex a half mile from campus.

Fayetteville police believe the body to be that of April Love, 20, of Hope, Ark., a junior political science major who was very active in student organizations and well-known on campus.

Police say the body has been transported to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy to determine the cause of death and to confirm identity has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 19.

Police arrested a man in Nashville, Ark., on Friday in connection with the investigation, and he was identified by Fayetteville police as 20-year-old Brandon D. Sanders. Sanders is not a student at the university.

Fayetteville police are continuing their investigation. The body was discovered after police responded to a call from the Garden Park Apartments, 1235 Mount Comfort Road, approximately a half mile from the UA campus.

Students are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Affairs at 800-639-5008 with concerns or questions. Counseling is available at the Pat Walker Health Center.

A grief counseling meeting involving members of the Crisis Center and Counseling and Psychological Services is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Garden Park complex.

Opportunities for students, faculty and staff to gather next week to express their feelings will be announced.
