LACEY NAMED AS REGISTRAR

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arlene Cash, Dean of Enrollment Services, has announced the appointment of Alice Lacey to Registrar. Lacey will be responsible for administering University degree requirements, overseeing academic regulations, verifying enrollment, and maintaining academic history on students. Her appointment is effective July 1.

"Ms. Lacey has held this position for several months on an interim basis and has already brought significant and positive change," said Cash.

"Most importantly, she is deeply committed to quality student service and the efficient use of technology in our registrar processes. We will benefit from the energy and creativity she brings to this position in service to the whole University community."

The Registrar's Office supports the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs working under the auspice of Enrollment Services. Lacey has been serving as interim registrar since June 1998 and as associate registrar since 1991.

"This office has many audiences," says Lacey. "We serve students, faculty, colleges and the administration. I enjoy helping people deal with the reality of a situation and to consider possibilities," she said.

Lacey holds a B.A. degree in psychology and a M.Ed. in counseling in higher education from the U of A.

She arrived on campus and began a long career of working for the University.

"I served as a resident assistant, a graduate resident, and head resident for Residence Life and Dining Services while working on my undergraduate and graduate degrees," said Lacey. After graduation Lacey worked as head resident, administrative assistant, program adviser and program coordinator for Residence Life until 1991 when she became associate registrar.

"I'm aware of the ground work and support system that's in place, I have good working relationships with professional colleagues, and I love working with Dean Cash. She's not someone who limits people to boxes, but she holds them accountable, " said Lacey. "She offers people the ability to be of service to the public."

Volunteer work has occupied much of Lacey's free time throughout her career. She is active with Girl Scouts, the Ozark Humane Society, her church, and Holcomb Elementary School where her son Corey will be entering sixth grade this fall. She is married to Allen Lacey, an investment manager in the UA Treasurer's Office.
