It's Elementary, Dr. Greenwood: Education Dean To Be Leverett Principal For A Day
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The dean of the college that each year prepares hundreds of students to teach in elementary classrooms will get some first-hand experience with the children his graduates teach every day. Reed Greenwood, dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, will serve as Principal for a Day at Leverett Elementary School on February 19, 2003.
He’ll begin the day with a tour of the building conducted by fifth graders and will go on to visit the computer lab and read stories to kindergarten students in the school library. Like any principal, Greenwood will also be called upon to help resolve student problems as they come up.
Leverett principal Jennifer Lawson was eager to partner with the University of Arkansas for the day. She noted that many of the school’s students are the children of university employees and UA international students. She is particularly enthusiastic that Greenwood agreed to be Leverett’s Principal for a Day.
"Dean Greenwood has an absolute desire to make education be the best it can be," Lawson said. "We have appreciated his involvement with the schools. Also, as dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, he is a role model for students who can influence them towards going to college."
In addition to leading the UA college that prepares educators and health professionals, Greenwood is actively involved in the community as chair of the Walton Arts Center Council, vice-chair of the board of the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the board of the U of A Alumni Association. He served on the Blue Ribbon Commission for Public Education in Arkansas and is active in the Fayetteville Rotary Club.

9:30 — 10:00 a.m. benchmark demonstration with Betty Downs and fourth graders
10:00-10:30 a.m. visit Compass Lab (computer lab)
10:30-11:00 a.m. discuss importance of college education with Ms Dickson’s fifth graders
11:00-11:30 a.m. read to kindergarten students in library
11:30 a.m. — noon lunch in teacher’s lounge
noon exit conference with Dr. Lawson (principal)
