The University of Arkansas Athletic Department and Army ROTC Program commemorated the 100 successful years of ROTC service to America on Oct. 15. Lt. Col. Chad Quayle rewarded Lt. Col. (retired) Long in honor of Capt. Paul Long for his service and sacrifice to our nation as well as his induction into the ROTC Hall of Fame.

Long was from Pine Bluff and then attended the University of Arkansas as a chemistry major. He was the cadet commander for the Razorback Brigade of the Army ROTC Program and commissioned as an infantry officer. Long was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. While returning from a six-month peacekeeping mission in Sinai, the charter plane carrying Long and 248 other American soldiers home for the holidays, crashed over Gander, Newfoundland. After Long's tragic death, he received a Meritorious Service Award, given to those who distinguish themselves by outstanding meritorious service and achievement to the United States.

In memory of Capt. Paul Long, the Razorback Brigade will utilize his exemplification of what it means to live the Army values and will continue to commemorate his selfless service and sacrifice to our nation by his induction into the ROTC Hall of Fame.
