The World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department held its "Language and Culture Connections Fair" on Oct. 27 at the International Connections Lounge of the Arkansas Union. This event was organized in collaboration with University Programs and the Multicultural Center.

The fair featured a tabling setup from all offered language programs within WLLC Department as well as a table for University Programs and the Multicultural Center. Each language table was filled with information on WLLC courses, programs (like study abroad), student groups, and upcoming events along with culturally relevant treats. University Programs sponsored the provided meal from Ozark Catering.

Attendees of the event received a "Connections Fair passport" and collected a sticker from each table they visited to complete their world languages tour. In the process, students learned how to say "Connections Fair" in each respective language and had conversations with faculty and current WLLC students. After visiting each table, students received a free WLLC t-shirt and entered to win a grand prize drawing.

Student volunteers from several language tables sang karaoke songs in their target languages, and two students specializing in dance performed a dance routine at the fair. Teo Bok, a singer-songwriter from Italy, performed a song as well. The Fair was an opportunity for students to learn about the opportunities and advantages of studying world languages and gaining intercultural competency.

Linda Jones, chair of the World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department, shared her thoughts on the event:

"The Language and Culture Connections Fair was fabulous," said Jones. "Seeing our department so prominently displayed in the international Connections Lounge at the Union, sharing languages and cultures with students across campus and speaking of the value of languages in all disciplines and cultures made for a fantastic day for our department and programs."
