Final Day of On-Campus UAPD Training at Vacant Fine Arts Center

The U of A Police Department will continue an emergency response exercise at the vacant Fine Arts Building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 8.

During this timeframe, the walkway from the George and Boyce Billingsley Music Building (MUSC) to the unoccupied Fine Arts Center (FNAR) will be closed and inaccessible. All exterior doors will be locked with signage posted on each door to remind the campus community of the training in progress. Theatre students should enter the theatre side of the building through the doors leading to the Properties Lab or the western hallway leading to the dressing room. 

Officers will conduct training exercises on a variety of scenarios, such as an active shooter threat. To make the training as realistic as possible, there will be loud noises at times, such as yelling, simulated gunfire and other sounds. Safety officers will be present in each scenario and throughout the building to ensure the flow of training and prevent unauthorized activity or access to the area.

"Training in our actual campus environment is important to our officers because it helps us prepare to respond to a real-world situation, if it's ever needed," said UAPD Cpt. Matt Mills. "By training in our buildings, we are able to understand the nuances of each floor and area in order to facilitate a quicker and more efficient response. We appreciate everyone who made this training possible for us this week."
