University of Arkansas Celebrates National Transfer Student Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Each October, National Transfer Student Week celebrates the academic accomplishments of transfer students at colleges and universities across the country. The week also honors the work of professional staff who support transfer students as they strive to reach their academic and career goals.

This week, Transfer Central at the University of Arkansas marked the occasion with a series of events — including a virtual game night — aimed at informing prospective transfer students about the opportunities available at the U of A. Transfer Central, a part of the Office of Admissions, also featured student profiles from current Razorbacks who have found success at the university.

"I transferred to the University of Arkansas because of the astonishing engineering program offered here," said Matthew Sparks, a mechanical engineering student in the College of Engineering. "Along the way, everyone I have met has treated me with respect and provided me with the support I need to be successful!"

Nationally, nearly 4 in 10 students are likely to transfer colleges. The U of A supports these students with innovative scholarship opportunities like the Arkansas Transfer Achievement Scholarship, as well as course equivalency guides and the Transfer Planning Guide offered by the Office of the Registrar.

"Transfer students are an important part of our enrollment efforts," said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admission. "Transfer students are very driven. They come ready to engage, adding to the classroom and to the community. They just need support to make connections as they adjust to a new campus."

Transfer Central provides resources and support to all students who are interested in transferring to the University of Arkansas. The office regularly hosts webinars focused on key aspects of the transfer process, and staff are available to meet with students one-on-one to answer questions and help create the best transfer plan for each student.

"In the Transfer Central Office, everything we do is geared to supporting a successful transition for students to the University of Arkansas," said Chad Cox, associate director for admissions and transfer central. "These students are prepared to do well, and this week highlights their many accomplishments."

National Transfer Student Week concludes today, but transfer students on campus are encouraged to stop by Silas Hunt Hall any time this fall to collect Transfer Central buttons and other swag celebrating transfer Razorbacks.
