Glen Dunn has been named employee of the year by the University of Arkansas Global Campus.

Dunn, the manager of technology services for Global Campus, was recognized at an online July staff meeting for his exceptional leadership and hard work during the dual crises of extensive flood damage to the Global Campus building and the COVID-19 work-from-home order. He is part of a two-person team that provides technology and facilities support for Global Campus.

Cheryl Murphy, vice provost for distance education, praised Dunn as an employee who goes above and beyond during times of crisis at Global Campus.

"We applaud Glen for his strong leadership and problem-solving skills during these critical months," Murphy said. "Glen calmly took on heavy challenges to make sure the Global Campus continued to function at full capacity despite floods and building evacuations. He kept us running when the main campus needed Global Campus the most."

Dunn was instrumental in dealing with building and equipment issues that arose March 6, when a water pipe ruptured and flooded most of the fourth and fifth floors, with slightly less damage on the third. Less than two weeks later, COVID-19 concerns hit. Staff who had not already transitioned to work remotely due to the flooding were required to vacate the Global Campus building due to the U of A work-from-home order.

"I can think of no one more deserving," said a co-worker who nominated Dunn. "Glen has spent many hours of his personal time safeguarding our assets, yet not one time have I seen him be anything other than a complete professional. Glen's support of the Global Campus allowed the entire staff to do their jobs under troublesome conditions."

Dunn helped manage construction to restore the building, inventoried and moved damaged equipment, ordered new technology to facilitate remote working, and made sure employees had access to the servers and systems needed to do their jobs. He also continued to perform his his normal tasks, such as managing planned renovation and information technology projects.

Dunn received the Global Campus Employee of the Second Quarter of 2019-2020 in recognition of his outstanding service.

"I am fortunate to work with such an amazing group of people, and it is an honor to receive this award," Dunn said.

Others nominated for employee of the year were Lesa Moyer, Jefferie Renegar and Colleen Whitman.

The Global Campus employee of the year is chosen from among the year's four employee of the quarter recipients. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The award recipient receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award.

The Global Campus supports U of A academic colleges and schools in the development and delivery of online degree programs and courses, self-paced online courses, and workforce development programs. This unit provides instructional design services, learning technology support, media production services, and assistance with financial administration, recruitment and marketing.

The Global Campus also supports the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying in online degree programs.
