Let's Be Careful Out There: Helmet Giveaway Supports E-Scooter Safety
Many students and other area residents have already taken an e-scooter ride since the city of Fayetteville's first approved vendor launched its rental services last month. The university has implemented additional safety precautions for e-scooters on campus including automatically limiting the speed of scooters around the core of campus, but as e-scooter usage increases so does the potential for accidents.
With this in mind, the university urges students and other e-scooter riders to take three basic safety precautions:
- Review and follow the basic safety rules and regulations (see chapter 6) for e-scooter usage including always yielding to pedestrian traffic.
- Practice defensive riding (don't assume drivers will always know where you are or see you at all).
- And always where a helmet.
Athough not mandated by law, riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. E-scooter vendors don't supply helmets with the e-scooter rentals so riders need to purchase their own helmets.
E-Scooter Helmet Giveaway
In an effort to encourage the use of helmets when riding, the U of A Office For Sustainability is giving away a limited supply of helmets to e-scooter riders and cyclists. The helmets are available while supplies last at the Sustainability House (238 Harmon Ave.) during regular office hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bell Helmets generously sponsored the giveaway with 50 high quality multi-sport style helmets. The helmets are one-size-fits-all in a matte gray color finish.
