Children's Choir Sings in the Windy City

Congratulations to the University of Arkansas Children's Choir on their tour to Chicago last week, under the direction of Rachel Cornett, intern Corey Swann, and accompanist Jason Burrow. These singers performed concerts at Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Shedd Aquarium, and the original Chicago Library.

Other activities included sightseeing in the Windy City and attending the musical Hamilton at the historic downtown Majestic Theater. "Bravo to these young musicians and their chaperones on a fantastic opportunity of making music together and experiencing culture in Chicago!" said Rachel Cornett about the experience.

This SATB program includes two choirs open to all female and male singers in grades 2-12. They meet Tuesday nights in the U of A Billingsley Music Building throughout the school year. The group of over 100 students from all over Northwest Arkansas focuses on singing a diverse selection of choral music, including pieces from a variety of languages and cultures. Singers in the program also learn performance skills, sight singing, ear training and music theory. Two major concerts are held each year in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center, with additional performances at various venues.

Open auditions dates for the 2019-2020 season are scheduled for June 22 (10 a.m. to noon), July 18 (5-7 p.m.), and Aug. 3 (10 a.m. to noon). All auditions are held at the Music Building's Choir Room, number 335.
