U of A to Host Disability Etiquette and Sensitivity Session Oct. 1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance invites the campus community to attend a Disability Etiquette/Sensitivity Informational Session to raise awareness for National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October. The session will be held from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1 at University House.

The Disability Etiquette/Sensitivity Informational Session is designed to provide education and resources to participants, assisting them with the tools to better integrate individuals with disabilities into the workforce through proper etiquette using people first language. The presenter is Ashley Johnson Cross, Corporate Business Engagement Manager for the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Division.

 Ashley Johnson Cross became a part of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in 2010, as a business relations representative. In her tenure with Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, she worked to establish the agency as a resource with the Sam’s Club Consortium, which included Walmart, Sam’s Club, Tyson Foods, and JB Hunt. In 2014, under the department of Staff Development and Training, Cross received the National and International Certification of DISC and Values Train the Trainer.  In 2015, Cross completed the Certified Public Management program, through the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

In accordance to the Accommodations for Disabilities – Employment, Programs and Services Policy 203.1, supervisors and managers are required to attend an Americans with Disability Act-Reasonable Accommodation Training every three years. Any supervisor attending this presentation can receive training credit to satisfy the training requirement.
