Golfers are invited to tee off in support of a new scholarship for students in the Master of Science in Operations Management program.

The 2018 MSOM Scholarship Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, July 28, at Stonebridge Meadows Golf Course in Fayetteville. Registration is $100 per player, and the format is a four-person scramble.

"This golf tournament provides a fun networking opportunity for our students, alumni and friends, and faculty, while also raising money for our new scholarship," said Mindy Hunthrop, program coordinator and academic advisor. "We're excited to have a scholarship opportunity for MSOM students, and hope this tournament will allow us to continue to provide support in the future."

The MSOM program recently awarded its first scholarship to Marietta, Georgia, resident J.C. Thompson.

Thompson, 37, is a first-generation college student who works in the field of intelligent transport systems. He completed his associate's and bachelor's degrees while working during his twenties and thirties. Thompson said he initially didn't think graduate school would be realistic, but during his senior year as an online student at Valdosta State University, he saw an opportunity to further his education.

"I wanted to find a program from a school that was recognizable, a state school, and one that was affordable," he said. "After tremendous research, there was only one option for me. To take things a step further, the MSOM staff was the most helpful and provided the most guidance of any program that I've had any part in."

The MSOM Scholarship Fund is made possible thanks to gifts from alumni and friends of the Master of Science in Operations Management program. All gifts made in support of the MSOM Scholarship Fund count toward Campaign Arkansas, a $1.25 billion capital campaign focused on advancing academic opportunity at the University of Arkansas.
