Broadway Designer Visits Campus Today

The designer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be visiting campus today and meeting the public at 5 p.m.

Christine Jones, a Tony Award-winning scenic designer and artistic director of Theatre For One, will be visiting the Department of Theatre for the next two days. Jones will meet with theatre students and faculty, as well as members of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Northwest Arkansas community. She will also be doing an intimate Q&A for the public tonight at the new UA Black Box Theater. A Conversation with Christine Jones is a free event and open to the public. It will be held from 5-6 p.m. at 2 East Center Street, on the Fayetteville Square. No reservations are required. 

Christine Jones' set designs on Broadway include: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Pts I & IIAmerican Idiot (Tony Award); Hands on a HardbodyOn a Clear DaySpring Awakening (Tony Nomination); The Green Bird (Drama Desk Nomination); and Everyday Rapture. She has also worked on the West End in London: Close to You: Bacharach ReimagedLet the Right One In, and in opera: Rigoletto (MET). Other select works include: The Book of Longing (Lincoln Center Festival), Burn This (Signature Theatre) and True Love. She was awarded the 2015 OBIE for Sustained Excellence in Set Design.

Jones is here as part of the two-week run of Theatre For One, a mobile state-of-the-art performance space designed for one actor and one audience member to encourage intimate theatre experiences in public spaces. The Department of Theatre is hosting Theatre For One as part of their ArkType Festival of New Works, running through April 29. You can experience Theatre For One at the Walton Arts Center South Lobby tonight and tomorrow night, as well as in the lobby of the UA Black Box Theater Thursday through Sunday night.
