Bumpers College's Caillouet Receives Arkansas Flower and Garden Scholarship

Horticulture graduate Olivia Caillouet is pursuing a master's degree in agricultural and extension education.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Olivia Caillouet, a graduate student in agricultural and extension education, was recently awarded a scholarship by the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show.

Caillouet, who is from Little Rock, has been chosen to receive a $1,500 scholarship and will attend the 2018 show in Little Rock in March.

"I look forward to deepening my understanding and practice of agriculture, community extension and education, as well as international relations through this graduate assistantship," said Caillouet. "The support from the Arkansas Flower and Garden Scholarship along with guidance from my mentor, Dr. Leslie Edgar (assistant dean for student programs), are advancing me toward my future career aspirations." 

Caillouet earned her bachelor's degree in horticulture, landscape and turf sciences, and is working as a graduate assistant in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Science's International Programs Office.

An honors graduate, she has participated in the Global Community Development Program in Mozambique, presented research findings at the International People Plant Symposium in Uruguay, won presentation awards from the American Society for Horticultural Science and the Arkansas Academy of Sciences, and completed internships at organic farms in Big Sur, California, and in Puerto Rico.

Lesley Smith received an Arkansas Flower and Garden Show scholarship last year as a Bumpers College senior in horticulture, landscape and turf sciences.

The mission of the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show is to make Arkansas a better place by promoting gardening and beautification, providing educational programs, displays and exhibits on gardening, landscaping and horticulture; supporting the state's next generation of horticulture professionals through the scholarship program; and supporting community beautification through the Greening of Arkansas grant program.
