Current Parking Permits Remain Valid Until New Permits Arrive Mid-August

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Students, faculty and staff concerned about renewing or purchasing new parking permits can relax.

All current permits that are due to expire July 31 will be extended until new permits are available in mid-August.

The new parking license plate recognition system, initially planned to start next week, has been delayed for further testing. As a result, sticker parking permits will be issued again this year.

All current permits that are due to expire July 31 will be extended until new permits are available in mid-August.  All current customers and new students will receive an email letting them know when parking permits are available for purchase on-line.

 “We urge all our customers to watch their university email accounts in mid-August for this notice,” said Gary Smith, director of Transit and Parking. “Until that time, for everyone’s convenience, the expiration date on all current annual parking permits has been extended. Everyone can continue to park as they have been, until the new permits are available.”

Departments with one-day visitor parking should continue to use these permits as they have in the past.

Meanwhile, work and testing of the automated parking license plate recognition system will continue.

“Prior to implementing such a big change, we want to be sure the system works as expected,” said Smith. “We will announce the implementation of the new system at a later date."

Until the new system is ready, Transit and Parking will issue parking permits as it has in the past.
