Ten Scholarships Available to Female Teens Exploring Jobs in Skilled Trades
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ten scholarships are available for a four-day camp for young women ages 14-19, that will introduce them to career options in vocational and skilled trades. The scholarship application deadline is June 16.
Explore Skilled Trades Camp, offered by the University of Arkansas Global Campus and its partners, is set for 8:30 a.m. to noon July 17-20 at Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale. Young women will learn about careers in truck driving; auto and diesel repair; welding; and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
Online registration is open for young women ages 14 to 19. The cost is $149. Ten scholarships are available through a grant from the U of A Women’s Giving Circle.
“This is a great camp for young women interested in learning more about engineering, business, technical, vocational and entrepreneurial careers,” said Heather Sprandel, program coordinator.
Participants will explore science, technology, and math through fun, challenging, hands-on activities led by skilled professionals.
The program fee includes a T-shirt, insurance and snacks. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, including pants and closed-toe shoes.
Camp partners include Northwest Technical Institute and USA Truck.
