Ethics is Topic of U of A Rehabilitation Research Symposium on May 6

Stephanie Lusk, who teaches in the University of Arkansas rehabilitation education and research program, will be the keynote speaker.

The Rehabilitation Counseling Student Association at the University of Arkansas is sponsoring a rehabilitation research symposium on Saturday, May 6, in the Graduate Education Building auditorium. Stephanie Lusk, U of A assistant professor of rehabilitation education and research, will give the keynote address.

Registration is $30 in advance and $40 at the door for attendees who want to earn Certified Rehabilitation Counselor continuing education credit. The deadline to register in advance is April 25 and a check can be mailed with the registration form to the address on the form.

Lusk joined the faculty of the College of Education and Health Professions in 2012. She received the Rehabilitation Educator of the Year Award from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education in 2015. Her research focuses on substance use and disability. She also studies the importance of including the families of people diagnosed with substance use disorders into the counseling process.

On-site registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with Lusk to speak at 9 a.m.

Breakout sessions are scheduled after the keynote address. Speakers are John Sassin, coordinator of the rehabilitation services program at Langston University in Tulsa; Tanya Owen, a rehabilitation counselor and life care planner with Owen Vocational Services in Fayetteville; Brent Thomas Williams, U of A associate professor of rehabilitation education and research; Lynn Koch, U of A professor of rehabilitation education and research, and Julie Hill, a doctoral student in the U of A counselor education program; Elise Burt, veteran program manager at Soldier On Service Dogs; and Keith Vire, CED of Arkansas Support Network.

Master's students will present posters describing their research.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
