Asian Studies Program Receives Federal Grant to Enhance the Curriculum
The Asian Studies program in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences has received a grant in the amount of $52,608 for 2016-17 under the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
The UISFL Program provides grants to strengthen and improve undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages.
The grant project seeks to enhance Asian language instruction and strengthen the interdisciplinary aspect of Asian Studies at the University of Arkansas. Specifically, the project seeks to encourage language acquisition through the development of cooperative exchange relationships with partner institutions in China and the creation of new study abroad scholarships; develop a set of new interdisciplinary courses to support the creation of a new minor in Chinese studies; and infuse Asian Studies into the business curriculum.
It is the ultimate goal of this project to build a more rigorous language program as well as an integrated, interdisciplinary program in Asian Studies that will substantially enhance students' learning experience.
