'Humans of New York' Creator Speaks to Humans at the U of A

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Brandon Stanton, who turned his photography hobby into the worldwide internet phenomenon known as HONY – Humans of New York – is the first speaker in this semester’s student-sponsored Distinguished Lecture Series.

The free public lecture is at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in Bud Walton Arena. No tickets are necessary. Everyone attending is asked to use the south entrance doors.

Stanton will discuss how he turned a small idea for a blog – taking pictures of New Yorkers and telling their story in a few sentences – turned into more than 22.5 million followers on Facebook and Instagram. He has also published two bestselling books.

Stanton will take questions after his presentation. Questions can be tweeted by students and other members of the audience during the event.

The Distinguished Lecture Series is a student-sponsored program. Speakers are chosen by a committee of students, faculty and staff, and the events are funded by a student-approved fee, appropriated by the Programs Allocation Board. Recent speakers have included Bill Nye, Daymond John and Abby Wambach.
