Four Bumpers College Students Named Honors College Fellows

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— Four Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences students at the University of Arkansas have been named Honors College Fellowship recipients. Three were recognized as honors fellows and the other as a Bodenhamer Fellow.

Kaylee Chambers, Anastasia Mills and Bailey Riggs are Honors College Fellows while Srusti Maddala is a Bodenhamer Fellow.

Mills, who is from Benton, is majoring in food science and music. She plans to research food sustainability for her undergraduate thesis.

Chambers, from Springdale, is majoring in animal science with a pre-vet concentration. Her interests for undergraduate research include endangered species and animal behavior.

Riggs, of Bergman, is majoring in agricultural business with a concentration in pre-law, and plans to research the potential use of drones in agriculture for his undergraduate thesis.

Maddala, from Springdale, is majoring in biochemistry and environmental, soil and water science, and is interested in researching sustainable farming methods for her undergraduate thesis.

"These four students mark the largest group of Honors Fellows chosen within the Bumpers College in any year," said Jennie Popp, interim associate dean of the Honors College. "I am pleased to see representation from the Bumpers College growing among these Honors College Fellows."

All four recipients receive a $17,500 scholarship per year, for up to four years.

"The Bumpers College Honors Program continues to grow in student numbers and prominence," said Leslie Edgar, assistant dean of student programs and director of the Bumpers College Honors Program. "I am looking forward to the success of these four very talented and gifted students."

Both the Honor's College Fellowship and the Bodenhamer Fellowship have requirements that include a 3.8 high school GPA and an ACT score of at least a 32.

The university typically awards 70 to 80 Honors College and five to six Bodenhamer fellowships each year.
