Plaza de las Americas to Kick Off Hispanic Heritage Month

To kick off this year's Hispanic Heritage Month, the 11th annual Plaza de las Americas will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Arkansas Union Verizon Ballroom. The celebration will feature music, dancing, food, friendship and more in a celebration of Latin American culture in Arkansas.

There will be booths representing various Latin American countries and providing opportunities to learn about cultures south of the border. Fluent Spanish-speaking students will also be present to practice Spanish with those in attendance.

Plaza de las Americas has been a staple of the Hispanic community in Northwest Arkansas since 2005. The event is sponsored by the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies, the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education, the Office of International Students and Scholars, University Housing, the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange, Spring International Language Center, La Oficina Latina, the University of Arkansas Hispanic Heritage Month Committee and New Student and Family Programs.
